The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, the METRO is responsible for the provision of public transportation to over 50,000 passengers per day, and operates a fleet of buses, vans, and service vehicles. With 850 employees, the METRO has a seven-county jurisdiction including Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte, Johnson, Leavenworth, and Wyandotte. The mission of the METRO is to develop, provide, manage and coordinate public transit options serving regional customers and constituencies in a safe, courteous, efficient and innovative manner.
The METRO is currently seeking a candidate to fill an internship in the Planning/Special Services Department. In 2012, KCATA will implement significant transit improvements in the metropolitan area, focusing on Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) improvement projects in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, Kansas, Gladstone and North Kansas City, Missouri.
This internship will be focused on supporting the KCATA project management team during the summer of 2012 on TIGER construction projects. Emphasis areas for the Intern will be assisting with construction coordination, onsite construction observation and construction documentation. The Intern will be supervised and mentored by KCATA’s Project Managers and Senior Director of System Development and Engineering.
Assignment – Summary
Under the direction of the Project Manager, the summer Project Management Intern will work on construction and fabrication associated with the TIGER related transit construction projects. The TIGER projects have several different contracts ranging in scope from bus station construction, paving work, traffic signal improvements to shelter fabrication with each offering unique challenges and opportunities. All projects and contracts are overseen by the Project Manager and Senior Director of System Development.
The TIGER projects are in the design and bidding stages and are scheduled to begin construction in the spring and summer of 2012. It is expected that the Intern will work closely with KCATA’s staff, consultants and contractors to assist with construction monitoring. KCATA’s Senior Project Manager, Keith Sanders, will be responsible for daily oversight although the Intern may also work with and receive direction from other project managers.
The Kansas City Area Transportation is seeking a highly skilled individual to fill the position of BENEFITS CLERK in the Human Resources Department. This position will be responsible for providing accurate and detailed information on a timely basis to KCATA employees, retirees, payroll, vendors, and third party administrators regarding employer sponsored benefits. This includes informing employees of their benefit options and costs, assisting employees with enrollment, record maintenance, answering questions, filing, typing and developing letters and forms, data entry into the HRIS system, building and maintaining databases, calculating and reconciling monthly invoices, employee deductions, payroll withholdings, and ensuring the timely and accurate submission of bills for payment. This is a union position that will serve as the primary backup for the Personnel Clerk and provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department.
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, experienced, and progressive executive to direct the operations of its fast paced, multi-faceted ADA Compliance and Customer Service Department.
This position requires an extensive knowledge of federal and state paratransit and ADA regulations along with the ability to provide oversight and direction to the organization’s transportation service programs and staff. The successful candidate must have outstanding written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work positively with a diverse staff of salaried and unionized employees and a customer base that includes senior and special needs customers. The successful candidate must have experience in leading a similar organization with an annual operating budget of at least $4 million. The successful candidate must have well-developed analytical skills and the ability to identify and report important operational statistics and trends. Must have the ability to see the overall picture and set strategic direction, but at the same time pay attention to detail. Must have excellent organizational skills with the ability to develop, implement, document and maintain policies, procedures and controls. Must be hands on with paratransit scheduling software and Microsoft products. The successful candidate must be able to create and maintain a team environment.
