It’s been two years in the making. The complete package of Metro2012 improvements began rolling out in April 2012. With 54 routes affected, you will want to keep close tabs on what will change. This page provides the dates service changes will take effect, as well as a short description of the changes coming to each route.
Please note: Route plans and schedules may change. Please check back prior to effective date.
Metro2012 improvements are the result of a comprehensive study and more than 700 customer comments. We analyzed every comment and revised many of our original recommendations based on customer feedback. Changes will result in more efficient service that is more convenient and direct without increasing the budget. The complete package is being implemented in phases throughout 2012-2013.

Each quarter, we will make preliminary schedules available about two months prior to change. Look for these so that you don’t miss out on this important information. Ways to access the preliminary schedules will be promoted online, on buses, at transfer centers, through employers and more.

Routes are listed in numerical order. At the bottom of this page, a list for each quarter is provided.
New printed schedules for the routes changing March 31, 2013, will be available the in mid-March. Schedules may be available online sooner. Please check corresponding Rider Bulletins.
Main St. MAX Orange Line: (July 2012) Midday service will be improved from every 15 minutes to 10 minutes and evening frequencies will be improved from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes.
Troost MAX Green Line: (July 2012) Troost MAX will provide service between downtown and Bannister & Drury on weekdays and weekends, and will replace 25 Troost weekend service to Bannister & Drury.
12 12th St.: (October 2012) To simplify service, Route 12 will be split into two routes: Route 12 will operate primarily along 12th St.between Quality Hill and the 31st & Van Brunt trasit center, with service to Nowlin Hall and a new Route 15 Truman Road will operate on Truman Road between downtown and Truman & Crystal. 24 Independence: (July 2012) Short trips will continue to travel between downtown and Winner & White or Hwy 24 & Brookside, and all long trips will travel between downtown and the Independence Transit Center (Truman & Noland). Long trips serving the Independence Transit Center will continue to use current routing.
24X Independence Express: (July 2012) Route 24X will be replaced with new Route 15X Truman Road Express service, which will provide peak period limited-stop service between Independence and downtown Kansas City in a manner similar to Route 24X, but with more convenient schedules.
25 Troost: (July 2012) To match weekday service, Route 25 weekend service will operate between downtown and 83rd & Troost. Weekend service south of 83rd St. will be replaced by Troost MAX. With the upgrade of Troost MAX evening service Route 25 evening service will be shortened.
27 27th St.: (July 2012) Service will be straightened through Hospital Hill and extended to the Westside and downtown Kansas City via Summit Road. Weekday schedules will be revised to
provide even frequencies.
28 Blue Ridge: (July 2012) Route 28 service will be modified to operate all service between Blue Ridge Crossing and downtown Kansas City via 40 Highway and I-70 (no longer via Linwood Blvd.) to provide faster service between southeast Kansas City, Blue Ridge and downtown Kansas City. The route will continue to make connections at the 31st & Van Brunt transfer center. Weekday service will be extended from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. In conjunction with this change, Route 31 31st St. will also be extended to Blue Ridge Crossing to improve local service between Kansas City’s central areas and Blue Ridge Crossing.
28X Blue Ridge Express: (July 2012) Route 28X’s first morning trip will be scheduled for 5 a.m. and the evening trips will be rescheduled at regular 30-minute intervals and provided over
a longer period.
30 Northeast: (October 2012) Route 30 will be extended to the Northeast Industrial District to replace Route 126 East Fifth St. service. To better match demand, Route 30’s weekday schedule will run until 11 p.m. and the Saturday and Sunday service will also be reduced slightly.
31 31st St.: (July 2012) Route 31 will be extended to Blue Ridge Crossing (instead of Route 28 Blue Ridge via Linwood) to provide more frequent and more consistent service between Kansas City central areas and Blue Ridge Crossing. Route 31 will not travel to the VA Hospital. Instead, Route 35 35th St. will provide service to the VA Hospital.
35 35th St.: (July 2012) Route 35’s eastern route will be changed to provide service to the VA Hospital and to Dunbar Apartments. Service frequencies and hours will also be revised to provide consistent 30-minute service throughout the weekday.
37 Gladstone: (July 2013) Route 37 will be replaced by a new Route 36X Metro North/Antioch Express route that will provide more service into downtown (including the Government District) and Crown Center.
37XX North Broadway Express: (April 2013) Route 37XX will be extended at the route’s northern end to Gashland and New Mark, and on the southern end to Crown Center. To better match demand, the three morning trips will be scheduled at 6 a.m., 6:30 a.m., and 7 a.m. and the 5:55 p.m. northbound trip will be discontinued due to very low ridership.
38 Meadowbrook/Antioch Center: (July 2013) Route 38’s alignment will remain the same. The schedule will be adjusted to provide more consistent frequencies and to alternate trips between its two outer legs (Gladstone and Vivion/Jackson).
38X Meadowbrook Express: (July 2013) Route 38X will be replaced by new a 36X Metro North-Antioch Center Express route that will provide faster and more frequent service into downtown (including the Government District) and Crown Center.
39 39th St.: (July 2012) Buses will lay over on the west end of the route (39th & Rainbow) to improve service for passengers traveling the route’s eastern loop. Early morning and late night trips will also provide service on the entire route. Stops will also be consolidated to make service faster and improve reliability.
47 Roanoke: (October 2012) To improve reliability, Routes 47 and 51 Broadway will be jointly redesigned. Route 47’s current eastern routing (Blue Ridge Crossing to Plaza) will be joined with Route 51’s current northern segment (Plaza to Crown Center/downtown via Broadway). All service will operate between downtown and Blue Ridge Crossing, with the exception of weeknight service (approximately 9:30 p.m.) and Sunday service which will operate between downtown and Cleaver II Blvd. & Troost. 51 Broadway: (October 2012) To improve reliability, Routes 47 Roanoke and 51 will be jointly redesigned. Route 51’s current southern routing (Ward Parkway Center to Plaza) will be joined with Route 47’s current northern routing (Plaza via KU Med to downtown). The route will also be extended south from Ward Parkway Center via Ward Parkway and Bannister Road to serve Linden Hills and connect with Troost MAX. Short trips will operate between downtown and The Plaza (JC Nichols & 47th St.).
51X Ward Parkway Express: Routes 51X and 56X were consolidated into a single route operating more trips between Red Bridge and downtown Kansas City via Ward Parkway.
53 Armour-Swope Park: (July 2012) Route 53 will be consolidated with Route 54 Armour-Paseo and Route 108 Indiana. All northern end service will operate as Route 54, and southern end service south of Swope Parkway will be provided by an extension of Route 108 Indiana.
54 Armour-Paseo: (July 2012) Route 54’s southern end will change to provide new service between 85th St. & The Paseo to Ward Parkway Center. Service at 85th & Prospect will be replaced by Route 175. Service levels will be adjusted to better match demand: less rush hour service, but twice as much midday service.
55 Rockhill: (October 2012) Service will be discontinued due to low ridership and the upgrade of nearby Troost MAX service. Current service on Holmes at 85th St. will be replaced with Route 54. Service on Holmes to Bannister and 99th will be replaced by Route 51 service.
57 South Oak: (July 2012) Service north of 47th St. will be discontinued and consolidated with Main St. MAX to provide more frequent midday and evening MAX service. Service south of 47th Street will be combined with Route 156 Red Bridge to provide local service between the Plaza, Waldo and Red Bridge. Service will also be reduced to better match demand.
71 Prospect: (July 2012 and October 2012) Late morning service frequencies will be improved from every 13 minutes to every 10 minutes. The route will also be adjusted to operate all service via 11th and 12th streets to provide better service to the Federal District.
108 Indiana: (July 2012) Route 108 will be extended to the Kansas City Zoo to replace Route 53 Armour-Swope Park’s southern end service. The route will also be reconfigured to provide better service to Swope Health Center, the Shops at Blue Parkway and Bruce Watkins Cultural Center. Midday service frequencies will also be improved.
109 9th St.: (October 2012) Route 109’s western alignment will replace Route service traveling between 12th & Winchester and the West Bottoms. Route 109’s current alignment along 12th St. will be served by changes to Route 12 and service on Winner Road will be discontinued. Schedule changes will also be made to better match demand. 110 Woodland/Brooklyn: (July 2012) Service will be realigned to operate along Brooklyn Ave. between 18th and 44th streets to improve directness. Service on Vine and 25th St. will be discontinued. Weekday schedule levels will be adjusted to better match demand, and Saturday service will be discontinued due to low ridership.
121 Cleveland-Antioch: (October 2012) A number of alignment changes will be made to make service more direct and space the route from the 108 more efficiently. The route will be straightened in the Northeast Industrial District and moved from St. John Ave. & Hardesty on to Independence Ave. and Belmont. Also, between Truman Road and 45th St., the route will be moved from Cleveland Ave. to Jackson Ave. to expand coverage to the east and serve part of Jackson Ave. that will no longer be served by Route 12.
123 23rd St.: (October 2012) Service will be realigned to operate through Hospital Hill via 22nd St. and to provide service to the Westside neighborhood along Southwest Blvd. to 31st St.
126 East 5th St.: (October 2012) Route 126 will be discontinued due to very low ridership. Service to the Northeast Industrial District will be provided instead by an extension of Route 30.
129 I-29 Express: (April 2013) Service will be extended at both ends—to KCI at the north and to Crown Center to the south—and will operate along a consistent alignment in both directions via Tiffany Springs Road, Prairie View Road, I-29 and 169 Highway. The revised route will serve all three KCI terminals, provide better service to the Tiffany Springs area, and provide connections to and from other Northland locations. Service will be provided seven days a week from early morning until late night. Revised January 2013.
132 Gracemor: (July 2013) Route 132 will be maintained and extended to Crown Center.
133 Vivion/Antioch: (July 2013) Route 133’s alignment in downtown Kansas City will be streamlined to shorten running times and make schedules more convenient. The Iron St. variant through North Kansas City will also be discontinued due to low ridership and to simplify service.
133X Vivion/Antioch Express: (July 2013) 133X will be replaced with the new Route 36X Metro North – Gladstone – Antioch Center – Downtown that would provide much better express service between Antioch Center and downtown Kansas City. It will provide service between Antioch Center and downtown via I-29/I-35 to make service faster and provide 4 a.m. southbound/4 p.m. northbound trips.
135 Winwood/69 Hwy.: (July 2013) Route 135 will be maintained and extended to Crown Center. The schedule will be revised to serve more typical work times.
136 Boardwalk-Antioch Center Connector: (July 2013) Service will be provided on weekdays only between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be improved to operate hourly instead of once every two hours.
137 Metro North-Antioch Connector: (July 2013) Weekday service will be improved to operate every hour instead of once every two hours. Saturday service will be discontinued due to very low ridership.
142 North Oak: (October 2012 and April 2013) Route 142 will be upgraded and operate between Zona Rosa, downtown Kansas City, and Crown Center. Connections with Main Street MAX will be made at the 3rd & Grand Park-and-Ride in the River Market. Service will be expanded to provide service later at night, and Sunday service will be added.
155 55th St.: (October 2012) Route 155’s current routing via 55th St. will remain and the schedule will be adjusted to provide hourly trips between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
156 Red Bridge: (July 2012) Route 156 will be consolidated with the southern end of Route 57 (between The Plaza and Waldo), providing direct local service between Red Bridge, Waldo and The Plaza. Frequencies will also be reduced to better match demand.
163 63rd St.: (October 2012) Route 163 will be shortened by discontinuing the segment between Ward Parkway and Brookside Blvd. to provide more convenient schedules. Service levels will also be adjusted to better match demand.
173 Casino Cruiser: (April 2013) Route 173 will be reconfigured to provide much faster and more direct service, more convenient schedules, and year-round service to the Worlds of Fun area.
175 175th St.: (July 2012) Route 175 will be realigned to serve 85th & Prospect and replace Route 54 service realigned to Ward Parkway Center. Service to Overland Park will remain.
229 Tiffany Springs MetroFlex: (April 2013) To provide simpler service, Route 229 MetroFlex service will be replaced by improvements to Route 129 service, 230 and 231.
230 W. Tiffany Springs: (April 2013) The new route 230 will provide weekday connector service from Boardwalk Square to 112th & N.W. Prairie View.
231 E. Tiffany Springs: (April 2013) The new route 231 will provides weekday connector service from Boardwalk Square to Ambassador & Pamona, east of I-29.
237 Gladstone/Antioch MetroFlex: (July 2012) Route 237’s flex boundary will be extended eastward. Scheduled stops will also be introduced at Antioch Center to improve connections with fixed-route service.
243 Antioch-Barry Rd. Connector: (July 2013) Route 243’s alignment will change to provide service between 64th St., Prairie View Road, Gateway, Riverside Community Center, Vivion Road and North Oak Trafficway. Connections to downtown Kansas City will be available via Route 142 North Oak at North Oak & Vivion and to the I-29 Corridor via Route 129 on Prairie View. Service to Argosy Casino and Saturday service will be discontinued due to low ridership. Weekday service frequencies will improve to operate every hour instead of once every two hours.
247 Westside MetroFlex: (October 2012) Route 247 will be discontinued and replaced with a combination of Route 27 27th St. and Route 123 23rd St. fixed-route service.
251 TMC Lakewood Connector: (July 2012) Service will be provided from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
253 Raytown MetroFlex: (October 2012) Scheduled stops will be introduced at the Bannister & Drury transfer center to improve connections with fixed-route service.
296 Bannister/Hillcrest MetroFlex: (July 2012) Scheduled stops will be introduced at the Bannister & Drury transfer center to improve connections with fixed-route service.
298 South Kansas City/Wornall MetroFlex: (October 2012) Route 298’s southern boundary will be extended to the east to include the Bannister Federal District. Scheduled stops will be introduced at Bannister Road & Troost Ave. to improve connections with fixed-route service. Revised July 2012.
471 71 Hwy. Express: (July 2012) Route 471’s schedule will be adjusted to provide service over a longer span of time and routing to downtown Kansas City (including the Government District) will
travel via Crown Center. Service will be discontinued on Hickman Mills Drive between Red Bridge Road and Longview Road due to very low ridership.
