Swing Shift

The ATA’s “Swing Shift Program” is designed to meet the work related transportation needs of those employees who work non-traditional schedules. Many entry-level jobs, as well as summer jobs for youth, are during these non-traditional hours.

While some of the ATA’s existing service operates 20 hours per day during the week, most commuter-oriented service operates only during peak hours in the morning and afternoon. As a result many individuals desiring to use public transportation find themselves in a position of being able to get to work on an ATA bus, but not being able to get home or vice versa. For example, a person who reports to work at 4 p.m. and gets off at midnight might be able to get to work at 4 p.m. when bus service is available, but might not be able to return home at midnight because the bus that got him to work ended service at 7 p.m.

Under the “Swing Shift Program” this individual would be provided with a ride home using the ATA’s Share-A-Fare Paratransit service.
