Bus Fares Return June 1, 2026
Public transit throughout the region will begin charging fares on June 1, 2026. This includes service provided by KCATA, Johnson County Transit and Unified Government Transit. The Kansas City Streetcar will remain fare-free at this time.
We are working hard to make this transition as smooth and affordable as possible. We know there will be questions and will be publishing updates frequently to keep you informed.
Here's the cost to ride beginning June 1, 2026.
- Single Ride - $2
- Daily Pass - $4
- Weekly Pass - $20
- Monthly Pass - $62.50
Riders who qualify for reduced fare, will pay half of the above prices.
CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ON THE BUS.
On June 1, you'll be able to pay in 3 ways.
- Tap to Pay using a Visa, Discover or Mastercard directly on the fare reader on board.
- Use our RideKCGO Mobile App to store value right on your smartphone.
- Purchase a Limited Use Pre-Programmed Day Pass.
There are no longer Transfers.
Instead of traditional free transfers, RideKC will offer the industry standard - Fare Capping. Fare Capping means that every rider pays as they ride. Once their spending reaches the cost of a daily, weekly or monthly pass, you stop being charged automatically. If you are riding more than twice a day, this is the option for you. It's a system designed to save you money over time. Fare Capping is only applicable for people purchasing single rides.
Additional Information Coming Shortly
- Soon we will publish off-the-bus locations where you can buy single, daily, weekly or monthly passes. Cash or credit cards can be used at these locations.
- More information on how to qualify for reduced fares will be shared.
We are here to help every step of the way. As we get closer to June 1, we'll continue sharing updates on our website and social channels. You can also call the Regional Call Center at 816-221-0660.
