QualificationsKansas City Area Transportation Authority is a transit company that provides mass transportation throughout the greater metropolitan of Kansas City. The Metro has several openings for Class “A” Mechanics in the Maintenance Department. The applicant must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent; have 5 years of journeyman diesel/gasoline experience, including engine, transmission & airbrakes; & be able to obtain a Class “A” CDL w/ Passenger Endorsement. Two years post secondary certified mechanic training program may be substituted for experience. Must pass required exam for the position, in addition to the drug/alcohol screen & pre-employment physical.

Department: Planning and Special Services
DescriptionThe Director of Planning and Special Services is responsible for directing the regional transit authority’s service planning activities, overseeing short-range transit planning, and providing planning and operational guidance for transit planning and corridor studies. The Director supervises the Planning and Special Services Department which is responsible for developing and implementing service changes, planning new routes, developing new service applications and developing fare policy recommendations. The Director serves as primary liaison between the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and local governments, other transit providers, and other public and civic groups.
QualificationsThe successful candidate must have at minimum a BA/BS degree in Transportation or Urban Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering or a related field and at least five years’ work experience in urban transportation or transit planning. This position requires an exceptional understanding of transit, transit operations, transit scheduling and transportation project development; managerial experience directing transit planning activities and developing transit service and operating plans; a strong understanding of Federal, state and local government agencies and requirements; along with excellent written and oral communication skills that provide the ability to make convincing presentations to a diverse customer base. Experience with relevant computer programs including planning related applications related to GIS, transit route scheduling, and transit management is also required.
CompensationSalary commensurate with experience.
