Qualifications

The KCATA is currently seeking customer oriented candidates who have a HS diploma/GED and at least 2 years of stable work history. Must have a valid Driver’s License, and an excellent driving record, which includes no more than 2 points within the past 5 years.  Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Drivers’ License with Passenger/Airbrake Endorsements, and pass the required drug screen/pre-employment physical exam to receive DOT certificate. Must be at least 21 years of age and capable of learning how to operate a passenger vehicle.  Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are mandatory. This position requires prospective Operators to be available for a 6-week paid training course. The training schedule is non-negotiable.

 

Compensation

Hourly pay rate of $14.49 per hour during training.

Communication Specialist – Writer

The KCATA is seeking a “Communication Specialist – Writer” to write creative advertising and promotions as well as news and information.  This specialist position will collaborate with the communication team and KCATA leadership and contribute to varied and integrated communications products including:  digital communication (social media, website, e-newsletters), media and public relations, information for transit customers, employees and stakeholders, advertising, collateral, branding, revenue programs (pass sales and advertising) and marketing research.  

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, advertising, communications, or related field is required.  A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a communication role is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:    The Communication Specialist must have strong Microsoft Office skills; strong listening, oral and written communication skills; the ability to develop, manage and execute the implementation of complex public affairs communications; the ability to work within the structure of a “team”; possess a professional interest in public transportation, popular culture and new advertising trends and techniques; have capabilities of writing, editing, videography, photography, including editing photos and videos for online publications; and have the ability to effectively execute assignments in a timely and organized manner.

The KCATA is seeking a “Communication Outreach Specialist” to lead regional efforts to increase awareness and promote public transit services primarily through building key relationships and outreach initiatives.  This specialist will direct and spearhead efforts organizationally to place emphasis on developing and executing strategic approaches to build relationships with targeted groups; transit customers, community organizations, educational institutions, neighborhood associations and public interest groups.

 

Qualifications

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, is seeking a dynamic individual for their newly created CEO role. With a budget of nearly $85 million and approximately 750 employees, the organization currently oversees the operation of The Metro bus service, the Metro Area Express (MAX) Bus Rapid Transit service, MetroFlex demand-response routes, Share-A-Fare paratransit service for the elderly and persons with disabilities, and AdVANtage vanpool service. KCATA’s Board of Commissioners and other stakeholders have been aggressively working toward a reorganization effort to more fully realize the vision of the bi-state compact which created the organization.

The President and Chief Executive Officer will report to the Chairman and the KCATA Board of Commissioners. This position is responsible for the creation and promotion of a vision for regional transportation in concert with the Board. Further, the CEO must be able to promote supporting coalitions and interest groups while articulating and promoting both internally and externally the promotion of regional transportation and ensure the organization is focused on regional transportation efforts.

 

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required, while an advanced degree is preferred.

Candidates must possess substantial executive management experience, including a background working in an organization of substantial size/scope (200+ employees and significant budgets). A background working with represented employees would be beneficial.

Demonstrated qualities of vision, leadership, administrative ability, and public relations skills resulting in profitable performance are required.

Background must include the demonstrated ability to plan, initiate, direct and carry out short and long-term programs in a sustainable manner, while ensuring transparency and accountability.

While candidates may have experience in public transit (e.g, bus systems, streetcars/light rail, urban transit, heavy rail), individuals with applicable skills in government, business, stakeholder relations, and/or urban planning will also be considered.

Demonstrated experience in an externally focused leadership position is required.
