The Metro To Serve Airport Seven Days A Week

Posted on: Mar 28, 2013

(Kansas City, Mo. – March 28, 2013) Beginning March 31, The Metro’s 129-Boardwalk/KCI will offer service between downtown Kansas City, Mo., and all KCI Airport terminals seven days a week. The route previously only offered service during the weekdays, while a MetroFlex route allowed customers to call and schedule trips at some other times. “This is a great development for travelers, as well as those who work at the airport,” said Director of Planning Danny O’Connor. “KCATA has received an overwhelming positive response about this change. Travelers are excited about the alternative to a cab ride or paying for parking, and people who work at the airport are glad to have a reliable, money-saving option seven days a week.” On weekdays, 129 trips travel from the 10th & Main MetroCenter to the airport hourly, with additional trips from downtown ending at Boardwalk Square MetroCenter. All weekend trips on route 129 serve KCI. The 229-Tiffany Springs MetroFlex is being replaced by regularly scheduled fixed-route service on 129, 230 and 231. More Northland Service Another improvement is the addition of Shoal Creek Parkway to the Liberty Express. The route, renamed the 34X-Shoal Creek/Liberty Express, adds reverse commute trips. Customers can travel from downtown to Liberty in the morning, and return from Liberty to downtown in the afternoon rush hour. Transit is being introduced in the New Mark and Gashland areas of the Northland. The 37X-North Broadway Express travels between downtown and Metro North Mall. The route is extending north to include these neighborhoods. These improvements are the result of a comprehensive, multi-year effort by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to better match transit demand throughout the city of Kansas City, Mo. Metro Prepares For Late March Storm

Posted on: Mar 22, 2013

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) is preparing for the coming storm that will affect travel this weekend. KCATA will be providing bus service and encourages its customers to plan for the severe weather. If road conditions are bad, delays to Metro service may occur. Please stay follow local weather forecasts and plan accordingly. The Regional Call Center, 816-221-0660, will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. We plan to run bus service as we do every day. If customers need to travel, we encourage them to dress warmly, listen to local newscasts for up-to-date information, and use the online tools to learn if their bus is delayed. Customers can prepare now for their bus travel. The Metro’s website, http://www.kcata.org, explains the Snow Plan. This plan pinpoints several areas that experience difficult travel in snowy weather. KCATA will issue an alert to local media and post a notice on its website if the snow reroutes are being used. The Metro offers real-time bus information through WebWatch. Customers can find their individual routes and see where buses are on a real-time map at http://www.kcata.org/maps_schedules/webwatch/. A mobile version from a third-party software designer is available at http://itsab.us/tracker/. KCATA also distributes notices about system-wide delays through the website Twitter. Customers can follow The Metro at http://www.twitter.com/KCATAMetro. KCATA road crews will treat problem spots along Metro bus routes and at bus stops.

A simple “Thank You” can go a long way. Monday, March 18, is International Bus Driver Appreciation Day. KCATA would like to ask riders to make a special effort say “Thank you” to their bus drivers on Monday. Just a friendly smile and “Thank you!” will do. If you want to go a little further, you can find printable cards at this website. We appreciate our drivers who do their best to keep passengers safe and buses running on schedule, despite challenges like unpredictable traffic and bad weather. Help us spread the word to your fellow riders, family, friends and coworkers.

Why March 18?

That's the day that bus service is believed to have debuted in Paris in 1662. (Source: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/03/dayintech_0318)
